Ferry Street Demonstration Site – Community Consultation.
Waterfall Way Community Land Trust is working with Bellingen Shire Council regarding Lot 1 Ferry Street, Urunga as a potential site for a small affordable housing demonstration project.
WWCLT has asked Council to consider transferring the site so that we could develop around six modest two- and three-bedroom homes for local workers using the Community Land Trust model. The proposal focuses on creating permanently affordable homes while respecting the environmental qualities of the site and the surrounding neighbourhood.
Council has been seriously considering this request since March 2025. On 18 February 2026, Council unanimously resolved to undertake a public community consultation about the potential disposal of the land for affordable housing.
As part of early feasibility work, WWCLT has sought advice from an ecologist, arborist and architect to ensure that any future development would retain significant trees, support biodiversity, and keep the site’s development light-touch and environmentally responsible.
